You’ll notice the first 4 help target the 4 main audience stages within your Customer Journey Funnel.

The last 2 provide different ad templates and can be used within any stage of your Customer Journey Funnel (though we strongly recommend only using certain audiences for better performance).

*For best results, we also highly recommend being careful not to set up too many additional Automations overlapping the same audiences you’re already retargeting via your Shoelace Journey Ads.


1 - Bring Back Your Website Visitors

What (Focus):

Top of Funnel (Cold Audience):
This Automation lets you retarget shoppers who have visited your homepage and blog posts but have not browsed any products.

Who (Best Audiences):

Include: Shoppers who have visited your homepage within the last 180 or 90 days

Exclude: Shoppers who have viewed your products within the last 180 or 90 days

How (Best Templates): 

Bestseller Ad: Use this to showcase your top sellers and get your past visitors excited to come back and browse more of your store. 

Single Image Ad: Use this to feature a strong brand-building image to bring your store back to mind for this colder audience.


2 - Capture Lost Product Viewers 

How (Focus): 

Middle of Funnel (Warm Audience):
This Automation lets you retarget shoppers who have visited your products but not added items to cart.

Who (Best Audiences):

Include: Shoppers who have viewed your products within the last 90 days

Exclude: Shoppers who have added items to their cart within the last 90 days

What (Best Templates):

Dynamic Product Ad: Use this to remind past shoppers of items they’ve recently browsed and get them to return to your store.


3 - Convert Your Abandoned Carts 

How (Focus): 

Bottom of Funnel (Warmest Audience):
This Automation lets you retarget shoppers who have added at least one item to cart but have not finished their purchase.

Who (Best Audiences):

Include: Shoppers who have added items to their cart within the last 90 days

Exclude: Shoppers who have made a purchase within the last 90 days

What (Best Templates):

Dynamic Product Ad: Use this to remind past shoppers of items they’ve recently browsed and get them to come back. Consider throwing in a special discount code to entice this audience group to finalize their purchase.


4 - Nurture Your Past Purchasers

How (Focus): 

Loyalty Building (Potential Lapsing Audience): This Automation lets you retarget past customers who have not made a more recent purchase so you can increase your repeat customer rate.

Who (Best Audiences):

Include: Shoppers who have made a purchase within the last 90 days

Exclude: Shoppers who have made a purchase within the last 30 days

What (Best Templates):

New Arrivals Collection Ad: Use this to get your past purchasers excited again about what you offer at your store! Consider offering a special discount to help encourage this audience group to come back and shop again.

Single Image Ad: Use this to keep your brand top of mind and get your customers curious about what they’ve been missing out recently with your store.


5 - Promote a Collection

How (Focus): 

This Automation lets you retarget visitors by showing them a specific collection.

Who (Best Audiences):

Include: Shoppers who have viewed your products within the last 90 days

Exclude: Shoppers who have made a purchase within the last 90 days

What (Best Templates):

Collection Ad: Use this to feature a specific collection for short period of time. This can work great when you have new releases, or your store is moving into a new season (e.g. Summer/Winter) and want to showcase products your audience will be excited about. Quick Tip: Don’t forget to select your desired collection in the dropdown menu while creating your Automation!


6 - Promote Your Product Reviews

How (Focus): 

This Automation lets you retarget visitors by showing them a series your products with 5-star reviews. *This Automation is only available if you have the Shopify Reviews app installed to your store and have this app integrated with your Shoelace account. You must also have a minimum of five different products each with a 5-star review for this integration to work.

Who (Best Audiences):

Include: Shoppers who have viewed your products within the last 90 days

Exclude: Shoppers who have made a purchase within the last 90 days

What (Best Templates):

Product Review Ad: Use this to showcase social proof and encourage your shoppers to come back and reconsider continuing their purchase.
